The origin of the Burning Legion
After its creation by the “Big Bang”, the divine titans set about bringing order and life to the different worlds of the still young, chaotic universe. In the swirling nether, an astral dimension of chaotic magic, there is also an infinite number of demonic beings lurking. Its sole aim is to destroy life and devour the released life energy.
The titan pantheon chose Sargeras, its first warrior, to protect it against these threats. Sargeras sought and successfully destroyed all adversaries over many millennia. However, the depravity and malice were constantly encountered plunged him into a deep depression and crisis. He began to doubt the Titans’ vision of an orderly universe and concluded that only chaos and destruction could be the only absolute constants. Eventually, he went mad and broke away from his brothers. He decided to undo the work of the Titans and raised an unstoppable army, the Burning Legion.
As the commander of his “Army of Darkness”, Sargeras attracted two heroes with promises of immeasurable power to his side: Kil’jaeden and Archimonde, both were gifted with magic. Only the Eredar Velen was able to withstand Sargeras’ pernicious influence. Thanks to Naaru, a species of light began to fly with his followers from planet Argus to Draenor – orcs’ home.
From then on, Kil’jaeden’s task was to corrupt other peoples and won them over to the Legion. For this purpose, he recruited the Nathrezim, a race of vampiric demons led by the Dread Lord Tichondrius the Darkener. Kil’jaeden found the ideal elite troop in the profoundly evil pit lords and their barbaric leaders Mannoroth. Archimonde was entrusted with the formation of the armies, and after they were ready, Sargeras led the troops on their unholy crusade into the vastness of the Great Dark Beyond. To this day, it is not known how many worlds have already been burned out.
147,000 years ago: The Battle for Azeroth
The Titans did not notice Sargeras’ campaign of destruction and moved on from world to world to give them form and order. On their journey, they finally came to a small world that its inhabitants would later call Azeroth. Here they encountered several hostile elementals who worship beings called Old Gods. Concerned about the evil nature of the Old Gods, the Pantheon sent its troops to eliminate the elementals and their dark masters. After the danger was over, the titans resumed their work, giving the ancestors of dwarves and humans – the earthen (earthen) and sea giants – to help them reshape the world.
65,000 years ago: The fountain of eternity and the dragons
For many thousands of years, Titans moved and shaped the earth until a perfect continent remains – Kalimdor, the “land of the eternal starlight”. In Kalimdor’s center, the titans created a lake of shimmering energies, which they called the Well of Eternity and which was the source of all life and magic on Azeroth. Before the Titans moved on, they donated a part of their power to five chosen ones of the Dragonfolk of Kalimdor to protect Azeroth: Alexstrasza the life- binder, Malygos the spellcaster, Ysera the dreamer, Nozdormu the Timeless and Neltharionthe earth guardian. However, it wasn’t long before Sargeras found out about the existence of the new world.
14,000 years ago: The night elves’ finest hour
A primitive tribe of nocturnal humanoids was drawn to the Well of Eternity’s energies and settled on its banks. Its cosmic energies made the tribe robust, wise and as good as immortal over time. The people of the Kaldorei (children of the stars) or night elves, were born. They began building massive structures and temples around the lake. During its expansion on the continent, the young civilization met several powerful beings, such as the ancient dragons or Cenarius, a demigod from the untouched virgin forests. The generous Cenarius took a liking to the night elves and taught them much about the natural world. The kaldorei developed a strong bond with the forests and lived in a harmonious balance with nature.
