Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down and chat with hip-hop artist J.T. Hiskeyat his town home located in South Jordan, Utah. We wore masks and took safety precautions when conducting this interview. Here is our conversation we had with him:
Hi J.T! Thank you for taking your time to sit down with us today. We have been looking forward to doing this for a long time.
What’s up! Thank you so much for having me. I am so stoked to be able to talk with you and I can’t thank you enough for this opportunity.
Of course, tell us about this new song you just released with Lil B?
Yes. First off, this song really means so much to me. The song is called Help The World and it’s a collab that many have been waiting for a long time. The best part of this song, is that every single proceed from it goes straight towards helping Black Lives Matter, a movement that both Lil B and I believe so much in. We have already raised a significant amount so far and the support will never be forgotten.
You recently spoke out about how music changed your life and you would never replace it for anything, tell us more about that?
Well, all of it is just so true. Music has opened so many doors in my life. Without the music industry, I wouldn’t have met all the amazing people that I happen to know now and I also can’t thank music enough for giving me more confidence and teaching me more about life lessons. I won’t get into all of this, but just things like that is why it’s turned my life around. I have always loved music since I was little but being in the industry is obviously a whole different story, and the industry helped me become who I am today. Wouldn’t replace it for anything.
We noticed that you are wearing a pink hoodie right now, can you tell us why you love the color pink so much?
Pink will always be one of my favorite colors because it’s unique and I love how it makes you stand out from the rest. I have always been the one who wants to stand out differently than everyone else and that is why pink is one of my favorite colors.
Do you plan on going on tour again when things are back to normal?
Oh, most definitely. All my gigs were canceled this year and it’s been kind of hard not going to lie. Without shows, I have had to really figure out other things to get me pre occupied and keep my flow moving. That’s why I’ve been so into photography this year. I’m the type who always has to be on his feet moving, and photography has helped me with that so much.
You have done so much in the music scene coming out of the state of Utah. What is your best advice for anyone who looks up to you and wants to do the same?
Be yourself at all times. Do your own thing. Do something because you love doing it, and most importantly follow your dreams and every foot step. I truly mean that. You will go so far if you don’t let anyone control what you are doing and you go after it.
For our very last question, we have to ask, do you really intend on running for President in the year 2036?
Wow, I’m glad you asked that. Right now, yes. But that could always change so you never know. I want to go back to school again in the near future and definitely learn much more than I already know right now. I don’t know what exactly I will go back for since I just barely graduated in Sociology a few months ago in August, but I definitely think if I’m going to do something as serious as run for any kind of office, going back to school is a must.
Thank you so much for taking to us today J.T. We truly appreciate it. We can’t wait to see what you end up doing next.
Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy what I have planned coming soon…. stay tuned!
