How to Assemble A Longboard?
Step 1: Gather all tools
You will need some necessary tools to set up your longboard. Here they are –
- Wheels: Round shaped 4 wheels. 2 wheels for each truck.
- Bearings: 8 bearings total. 2 bearings for each wheel.
- Wrench and screwdriver: If you have a skate-tool, then you already have the wrench and screwdriver. But if you don’t have the tool package, then you will need a separate wrench and screwdriver.
- Hardware: Total 8 screws & 8 corresponding nuts, 8 axel washers & 4 lock nuts, a kingpin & a kingpin nut, a large & small washer, and a barrel & cone bushing.
Step 2: Use grip tape
Take your deck and grip tape. Some decks already come with grip tape but many decks don’t come with it. Grip tape is very necessary, don’t skip this. If there is no grip tape already applied, then you have to buy one and apply that.
Step 3: Truck mounting
Now gather all your necessary tools here and complete the proceedings. At first, enter all the eight screws into the holes. Take note that, your screws shouldn’t be too short. 1.25-30 inches size screws will work well.
Small screws won’t fit with all decks and bigs will be excess for your longboard. You will notice that your longboard already has 8 drills in the deck. Now, put the screws in the holes. Tighten the screws well and remember to place the screws to face up.
Step 4: Set up hanger
Here you have to put the hanger between two bushings. Now use your screwdriver to tighten the bushings. Tight until the kingpin nut is close to the kingpin
Step 5: Put the bearings in the wheels
Flip your longboard in aside. Start sliding the bearing in one of the axels. Now, give enough pressure to slide the bearing in the wheels. When it will fully enter the wheel, you will understand it. Repeat the same process to other bearings.
Step 6: Attach the wheels
Now you have to slide one washer with the bearing wheel. The last part is called the lock nut. It secures the whole wheel set up the system. When tightening make sure that, all nuts and points are tightened enough.
Step 7: Give a trial
All set! Now, if you want you can give a trial by standing on it with your whole body weight. Do some flips and tricks to check if the wheels and screws are all enough tightened or any trouble.
