How to prepare for the LIC AAO Prelims English Language Paper

Reading Comprehension: 

• Comprehension questions have a moderate level of difficulty. 20% of questions in this part are asked from the basic vocabulary. 
• Read the questions slowly and then move on to the paragraph. This will allow you to locate the answers quickly while reading the paragraph. 
• To answer the antonyms or synonyms first read the sentences containing the actual words. Find out how the words are used in the sentence and then answer its synonym/antonym.
• Practice synonyms and antonyms of common words daily to boost your skills.

Sentence Rearrangement: 

• Read the passage correctly to understand it thoroughly. Understanding the basic idea behind the paragraph will allow you to quickly rearrange the sentences.
• Understand the connection between each line of the sentences.
• The questions will be given in a jumbled form having the first few sentences as generic.
• The remaining sentence will be informative and specific to the passage.

Cloze Test: 

• This is nothing but a passage from which certain words are eliminated. 
• This will test your comprehension ability and focus. 
• Read the sentence thoroughly to find out the option that fits correctly in the sentence.
• Attempting one sentence after the other will enable you to quickly eliminate the incorrect options.
• If you feel unsure about any option move on to the next option. Attempting 80% of the Cloze test questions will be enough for qualifying purposes. 

Spotting Errors/Sentence Correction/Improvement: 

• The approach here should be the same as the Cloze test approach. At first, read the entire sentence and then slowly locate the incorrect sentence structure or grammatical errors.
• You will find at least 1 to 2 sentences having obvious mistakes. Spot and attempt those easy questions. 

Fill in the blanks: 

• • Most candidates fail to score in this part due to weak grammar. If you are not confident enough about your grammar knowledge then try to score higher in Para jumbles, Cloze test, and RC. 
• Here candidates will find at least 1 to 2 questions that can be solved without your having a strong knowledge of grammar. 
• Practising grammar daily from any reliable book will be enough for candidates to secure a good score in this portion. 

Phrase Replacement:

• Reading the sentences thoroughly will enable you to quickly answer the questions. 
• In this part, candidates will be tested basically on their grammar skills. Try to eliminate the options one at a time if you are not 100% sure about the answers. 

Odd One Out: 

• This section will test your basic logic and vocabulary.
• Candidates will be provided with some options from which they have to choose the option which doesn’t fit with the rest.
