Believe it or not, achieving your ideal weight with your diet does not only involve your tummy, but the majority of the fight is done with your mind.
Most of the time, we keep telling ourselves that we need to lose weight because it already affects us on a daily basis – our social life, our health, even the way we look.
And with all those problems in mind, it seems like what we are doing is the “one step forward, two steps back” approach, because all we ever do is identify these problems but we rarely do anything to address them.
Aside from that, there are also a lot of things that we keep telling ourselves, which in turn leads us to not being able to do what it takes to achieve weight loss.
Here are the hurdles in our mindset that keep us from losing weight:
When eating becomes a hobby that brings you joy. Yes, food should be enjoyed, but too much of anything always turns out bad. If your lifestyle includes food in the items that bring you joy – and in some cases, the only item which does, chances are you have an unhealthy eating habit. You should not be impulsive in eating snacks and making an excuse for eating just because even if you’re not hungry.
Overeating stresses you out – but food happens to be your stress reliever. Okay, so eating is a stress reliever, which is fine. You cannot easily get that out of your system. So what do you do? you lessen the stress, to lessen the need for stress eating. Also, if you happen to have a career that exposes you to so many stresses in your work environment, you can have healthy alternatives for your snacks instead of the usual chocolates or your salty fries and oily burgers. Try eating foods that are less in sugar and salt. Those two ingredients are very potent in making you gain more weight.
When the waste of food is a Big No-No. There is actually something good in this thought. No one wants to waste food because it’s a bad thing. The next time you cook, do it for enough servings only and not like you are serving an entire banquet for dinner. The less leftover you have in your fridge after dinner, the less food you’d feel guilty about being put to waste so you’d eat them instead of throwing them in the trash.
Getting too conscious about your weight gain. Let’s face it. We do need weight loss and we tend to check on your weight on the scale. However, since we hardly are making any progress in it, our mind gets triggered when it sees that the numbers are working against our cause. We feel more stressed and anxious when we get too conscious that we are not losing weight. This affects our overall energy negatively. It is said that if you have a positive outlook in life, your body will just follow your heart.
